Proposed blockbuster Red Sox trade sees Boston deal Brayan Bello, Jarren Duran for $300 million two-time Cy Young

The Boston Red Sox have had a roller coaster of an offseason, losing a superstar in Alex Bregman, and gaining a star in Ranger Suarez. However, they don’t really seem like they’ve truly upgraded from the team they had last season.

Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer has a trade proposal to fix that. In it, he thinks the Sox should pull the trigger on the blockbuster trade of the winter, and acquire Detroit Tigers two-time Cy Young, Tarik Skubal.

The trade would look like this:

Red Sox get: LHP Tarik Skubal

Tigers get: OF Jarren Duran, RHP Brayan Bello, RHP Marcus Phillips (2025 No. 33 pick)

The Red Sox have spent the winter doubling…heck, tripling down on starting pitching. Yet even though Garrett Crochet and Ranger Suárez are a formidable duo, the strength of Boston's rotation is more about depth than overwhelming quality. A trade for Skubal would be meant to give them the best of both worlds, with the ultimate hope being that he and Crochet could do a Randy Johnson-Curt Schilling thing in October,” Rymer wrote.

This past season, Skubal won his second Cy Young in a row, posting a 13-6 record, a 2.21 ERA, 241 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.891 in 195 innings pitched. Combine him with his runner-up for last season’s Cy Young in Garrett Crochet, and the Sox get the meanest 1-2 punch in baseball.

Rymer did note, however, that the Sox would actually be the ones to shut this trade idea down. It does seem like he'd be right as well; Due to their recent past of avoiding risk and trying to stay under the radar financially, getting a guy who’s projected to receive a $300 million contract doesn’t seem like a move they’d make.

Hopefully, they realize that in the end, this is probably the best trade they can make this decade, put away their past, and work on getting Skubal to Boston ASAP.
