Michael B. Jordan Reveals Why Pregnant ‘Sinners’ Costar Hailee Steinfeld Missed Oscars 2026

Hailee Steinfeld will always be part of her Sinners family.

While the “Capital Letters” singer was absent from the 98th Academy Awards March 15, she shared several stories on Instagram supporting the movie’s cast and crew, including costar Michael B. Jordan, writer and director Ryan Coogler and cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who all took home Oscars.

Elsewhere in her stories, the 29-year-old—who is pregnant with her and husband Josh Allen’s first baby—showed support for Ludwig Goransson, who won Best Original Score for composing the Sinners soundtrack.

The Pitch Perfect alum also shared moments from the evening with Ryan’s wife Zinzi Coogler, who co-produced the film, as well as Misty Copeland, who performed a ballet routine that took inspiration from the film’s dance sequences.

And while Hailee was missing from the action at the Oscars ceremony, her costar and pal Michael gave her, as well as Wumi Mosaku (who each played the love interests of Michael’s Smoke and Stack, respectively) a shoutout upon scoring the Best Actor.

“I would like to thank my incredible cast,” Michael—who was nominated in the category alongside Timothée Chalamet, Wagner Moura, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ethan Hawke—said on stage at the Dolby Theatre. “Wunmi, thank you so much for giving Smoke the opportunity to be him. Hailee at home, she’s getting ready to have a baby right now, thank you so much for being the other, other half of Stack.”

For Hailee’s part, she has also emphasized how much being part of Ryan’s film meant to her.

“I’m feeling more inspired than ever coming off Sinners,” the Edge of Seventeen star told the New York Times in January. “I feel like this movie was a door I’ve been knocking on for a while as far as what it gave me the opportunity to accomplish as an actor.”

And, of course, it gave Hailee the opportunity to work with an incredible cast, including Michael.

“He has such an inviting energy,” Hailee said of working with her costar. “He really set the tone on this set for all of us to show up and feel safe and just in a place to make bold choices and not feel afraid to be vulnerable and make mistakes.”

As she put it, “He’s a good time.”
