As Chris Jericho's time in AEW nears its end, there is a lot of speculation that he will be returning to WWE. And his return to the Stamford-based promotion could be much sooner than expected.
Alex McCarthy of Wrestling Intel recently reported that the 55-year-old star's contract with AEW expires on December 31 at midnight. McCarthy added that the global wrestling juggernaut is considering having Jericho make his highly anticipated return on the January 5 edition of Monday Night RAW.
Last night, @AlexMcCarthy88 reported that Chris Jericho's #AEW contract expires at midnight on Dec. 31, he's WWE-bound, and that he may debut as early as Jan. 5 on Raw. My sources also believe he's going to show up on #WWE TV very soon. ⬇️
The January 5 episode of RAW will mark the one-year anniversary of WWE programming on Netflix. The show slated to air live from Brooklyn, N.Y., will be the first red brand show of 2026. The biggest attraction of the show thus far is Bron Breakker challenging CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Wrestling veteran explains why Chris Jericho will return to WWE
On a recent edition of the 83 Weeks podcast, wrestling veteran Eric Bischoff stated that Chris Jericho is a smart person who plans ahead for his future. The former RAW General Manager claimed that he can bet all his money on Y2J heading back to WWE after his AEW exit.
"He's a very smart guy and he plans ahead. He thinks ahead... If I had to bet money, I would bet he's going to end up in WWE. If I had to bet, and somebody would really have a reason to force me because I wouldn't want to take that bet, but if I had to, that's where I'm putting my bet.... I don't know what the plan is, but Chris has got a plan," Bischoff said. [H/T- Wrestling Inc]Many fans are expecting Chris Jericho to make his return at the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event. However, the recent reports suggest the promotion might not wait for that long. It will be intriguing to see when the veteran makes his first WWE appearance after more than seven years.
