Best Pokemon TCG Pocket Mega Absol ex deck guide: Strategy breakdown
All Mega Absol ex variants as seen in the game (Image via The Pokemon Company)1) Mega Absol ex
- HP: 170
- Attack: Darkness Claw - 80 damage
- Effect: Your opponent reveals their hand; choose and discard one Supporter card from it.
- Energy Cost: 2 Darkness Energy
- Retreat Cost: 1 Energy
Mega Absol ex’s Darkness Claw may not have an over the top damage number, but its value lies in disruption. Rendering key Supporter cards useless from your opponent’s hand can cripple their momentum. With only two Darkness Energy required, it’s a cost-efficient move that constantly ruins their strategy every turn.
2) Hydreigon
- HP: 150
- Ability: Roar in Unison - Once per turn, attach two Darkness Energy from your Energy Zone to this Pokemon. If you do, deal 30 damage to it.
- Attack: Hyper Ray - 130 damage; discard all Energy attached.
- Energy Cost: 3 Darkness Energy
- Retreat Cost: 2 Energy
Hydreigon is your backup heavy hitter. It compensates for Mega Absol ex’s moderate damage output when needed. Its Roar in Unison ability speeds up energy acceleration, ensuring Hyper Ray can be used every turn. Though the ability recoils some damage back, the damage output outweighs its cons. It also counters Oricorio (Pom Pom), which resists attacks from ex Pokemon.
3) Darkrai ex
- HP: 140
- Ability: Nightmare Aura - When you attach a Darkness Energy from your Energy Zone to this Pokemon, deal 20 damage to your opponent’s Active Pokémon.
- Attack: Dark Prism - 80 damage
- Energy Cost: 3 Darkness Energy
- Retreat Cost: 2 Energy
Darkrai ex is not the deck’s main attacker but it provides strong utility. Its Nightmare Aura ability chips away at your opponent’s Active Pokemon whenever you attach Energy, adding more pressure. If Mega Absol ex needs a break or falls short on Energy, Darkrai ex can step up dealing the same amount of damage, but for one more Energy.
