The Pittsburgh Steelers have now gone one-and-done in the postseason in each of their last five playoff trips and that has led to calls for head coach Mike Tomlin to be fired. The ugly manner in which the Steelers finished the season didn't help, either.
It feels unlikely that the Steelers will go that route, but it's something the franchise should consider with the team stuck in neutral. For far too long now, Pittsburgh has been barely good enough to make the playoffs, but not good enough to go all the way, which is unacceptable for a team that expects to win Super Bowls.
Following the embarrassing 28-14 loss at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens in the wild-card game on Saturday night, many Steelers fans made their stance on firing Tomlin very clear. In fact, "#FireTomlin" was tending on X after the loss to the Ravens.
"You change the QB. You change the OC. Still 10-7," one fan wrote. "Still fizzling out in December. Still not winning a playoff game. Where the f*** does the blame lie? Fire Mike Tomlin."

"The most overrated coach in the NFL by far," another fan said of Tomlin. "The only step forward for the Pittsburgh Steelers is to fire Mike Tomlin now. It’s the only way."
"I know a lot of people have been there already. For a long time. But I’m ready," said another fan. "Blow it up. Fire Mike Tomlin."
Now, not all Steelers fans feel this way, but after the latest playoff exit and seeing the same result we've seen in recent years, it's safe to say there are more fans on board with cutting Tomlin loose than there were before.
When asked about his future after the loss to Baltimore on Saturday night, Tomlin was not ready to address it.
If fired, Tomlin likely wouldn't be without a job for long, but that doesn't make firing him the wrong decision. Even for the most successful head coaches, there comes a time when change is needed, and that is absolutely the case here.
But we wouldn't hold our breath for anything to happen to Tomlin, as there's been no indication the Steelers are even leaning toward firing him.
