The Detroit Pistons' opening salvo of free agency was a simple yet smart one.
They're keeping Paul Reed in town on a two-year, $11 million deal, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Reed has long been a darling of the analytics community.
He checks in as an undersized center at 6-foot-9, 210 pounds. And he does a little bit of everything.
In 2024-25, Reed averaged 4.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks per game.
He was an underrated part of the Pistons' 30-win turnaround, from 16 the year prior to 46 this past season as they made it to the East's No. 6 seed.

Reed's best NBA season was his final campaign in Philadelphia in 2023-24. He spent his first four seasons with the 76ers.
Reed has done very well for himself after being drafted 58th overall in 2020 out of DePaul.
He won't ever be a star, but he's the type of player who the Pistons should love to have around. He can plug into a number of different roles as needed and simply get the job done.
