Pirates-Royals make trade swapping 33-year old MLB veteran for 18-HR Triple-A slugger

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is only a few weeks away.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Kansas City Royals won't be prime players in the big deals, but they connected on a deal on Wednesday morning.

According to MLB.com's Alex Stumpf, the Pirates are sending Adam Frazier to the Royals for Cam Devanney.

Frazier is a 33-year old MLB veteran. He has spent 10 years in the big leagues and is a career .263 hitter.

It's a return to the Royals for Frazier, who played there in 2024.

Devanney is a 28-year old who has never made it past Triple-A.

There is slight intrigue there, though. This season for Triple-A Omaha, Devanney is batting .272 with 18 home runs and a .931 OPS. If it holds up, it'd be his most potent minor league season.

This move may end up resulting in almost no upside for the major league teams involved. But there's also a chance Frazier's versatility and contact ability, or Devanney's power, can somehow make a difference at the MLB level.

It's a low-level yet worthwhile swap for the Pirates and Royals.
