The British Open is the only major golf tournament that doesn't take place in the United States. As a result, American golf fans have to adjust their schedules to watch the Open Championship.
Typically, the final major of the season is also the one that takes place the earliest in the day for American viewers. The British Open usually requires those across the pond to wake up early just to catch the majority of the event, at least for the first two days.
Just like Wimbledon for the few weeks before, the British Open offers American golf fans the opportunity to watch competitive sports while eating breakfast in the morning. While the first two rounds of the other three golf majors feature morning competition, most of the four rounds of the British Open take place before noon.
So, when can golf fans in the United States watch the British Open? Here's a breakdown.

What time zone is the U.K. in?
The entire United Kingdom, even Northern Ireland, is located in Greenwich Mean Time, which is five hours ahead of the Eastern Time zone and eight hours ahead of the Pacific Time zone.

The entire United Kingdom, which is located in Greenwich Mean Time, is five hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone in the United States and eight hours ahead of the Pacific Time Zone. So, regardless of where the British Open takes place each year, the time difference in the United States remains the same.
For American viewers, the British Open mainly takes place in the mornings, as the first tee times are usually very early in the morning. ET. However, West Coast fans can typically get a glimpse at the start of the tournament late on Wednesday nights before heading to sleep.
Each participant in the British Open gets a morning window and an afternoon window to play during the first two rounds. However, once the leaderboard is set after the second round, American viewers will be able to watch the leaders at a much more reasonable hour, as they tee off in the afternoon local time.
For example, if a player tees off at 6:30 a.m. local time at the British Open, that will take place at 1:30 a.m. ET and 10:30 p.m. PT.
