Phillies urged to deal $10.2 million All-Star by Opening Day, trade for Isaac Paredes as an upgrade

The Philadelphia Phillies didn’t really make any huge moves this offseason to shake things up. The biggest thing they did is re-sign Kyle Schwarber, essentially running back the same roster as last year, with less star pieces.

They need an upgrade in the most dire way. Fansided’s Christopher Kline wants the Phillies to part ways with their All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm, and either trade for two-time All-Star Isaac Paredes or call up top prospect Aidan Miller to replace him.

“Alec Bohm is the Phillies' projected cleanup hitter, so the odds of him actually getting dealt before Opening Day are slim. That does not mean it isn't the correct move. Philadelphia has only receded in October over the last few years with this core. Bohm's résumé in clutch situations is highly suspect. He's also on an expiring contract. This will be Philadelphia's last real chance to recoup value in a trade…There are a couple pathways to replacing him. Philadelphia can call up Aidan Miller, their top positional prospect, and hope his incredible five-tool skill set translates on day one. Or the Phillies can look for upgrades on the trade front, with Houston's Isaac Paredes emerging as the obvious target,” Kline wrote.

Last season with Philly, Bohm slashed .287/.331/.409/.741 with 18 doubles, 11 home runs, and 59 RBI in 120 games. As for his potential MLB replacement, Paredes slashed .253/.352/.458/.809 with 15 doubles, 20 home runs, and 53 RBI.

So, Paredes has Bohm beat in power, and he’s under control for another couple of years. Bohm, on the other hand, is set to be a free agent after this season.

Hopefully, the Phillies consider this as it could be the upgrade they need to shake things up. Otherwise, they might be heading for the same end as last season.
