Phillies trade idea finally lands $100M All-Star Twins outfielder using three players

The Philadelphia Phillies are going through some struggles recently, and it's not just one thing. The rotation, bullpen, and offense all have their issues.

With the MLB trade deadline right around the corner, the Phillies need to determine where they want to push their chips in. Do they upgrade the rotation, bullpen, or the lineup? It's a tough question that likely doesn't have a clear answer.

But, ESPN's Tristan Cockcroft proposed a trade idea for the Phillies that would finally land Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton after being consistently linked to the Phillies over the last year or so, with a three-player package.

"Minnesota Twins trade Byron Buxton to Philadelphia Phillies," Cockcroft writes. "... Our package going back to Minnesota features OF Justin Crawford and SPs Gage Wood and Cade Obermueller."

The Phillies' landing Buxton at the trade deadline would be a dream-come-true. He's the best possible addition the Phillies could make this summer that has even a semblance of a chance of being moved.

The Twins seemingly have no plans to move Buxton, and his no-trade clause only makes a deal more complicated. Cockcroft's trade idea would have the Phillies landing the $100 million All-Star outfielder.

Buxton has a .264 batting average with 25 homers, 3.0 bWAR, and an .869 OPS this season in another All-Star year for the Twins.

As a right-handed hitting outfielder who is 32 years old and under control through 2028, he's the perfect target for the Phillies.

This three-player package wouldn't be a small one, but shipping off Justin Crawford, Gage Wood, and Cade Obermueller for Buxton would be a move that the Phillies and Dave Dombrowski should have no qualms over making.

Being able to trade for Buxton while keeping Francisco Renteria, Ramon Marquez, Andrew Painter, and Aidan Miller would be about as good a deal as the Phillies could possibly get.

This trade idea isn't realistic for a few reasons, the return package included. But, this trade idea from an ESPN analyst is one that the Phillies fandom should only hope comes true, as this deal would be a huge win for Philadelphia.
