Phillies trade deadline expectation per MLB insider would be very fun

The Philadelphia Phillies are coming into July as one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball, and that has made the August 3 trade deadline one that many fans are getting their hopes up for.

It's understandable, as this team spent big last year, adding Jhoan Duran in a big trade that's worked great. This season, they began 9-19 and looked more likely to sell. That's changed since Don Mattingly took over, and now the Phillies are likely to buy.

But, just how aggressive will this team get? Well, according to MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided.com, Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies are expected to be aggressive at the deadline this year, which is some very fun news for Phillies fans.

Phillies expected to be aggressive at MLB trade deadline

"Expected Dave Dombrowski to be aggressive with the Phillies trade deadline plans," Murray writes. "... The Phillies can smell it. And with an addition or two, perhaps even a star, not only can the division be theirs, but so can the National League as a whole."

Philadelphia has turned its season around in a big way over the last two months since Rob Thomson was fired. Now, Dombrowski and company are likely to be major deadline buyers.

There are three positions that Dombrowski would likely be going after: right-handed hitting outfielder, a starting pitcher, and a quality reliever.

Byron Buxton would be the dream trade deadline pickup, but there have been rumors that point to Buxton sticking with the Minnesota Twins. But, there are plenty of other intriguing righty-hitting outfielders like Taylor Ward and Jo Adell to target.

With Aaron Nola and Andrew Painter's struggles, another starting pitcher would make a lot of sense for the Phillies. While Tarik Skubal isn't likely, a rental like Robbie Ray, Tyler Mahle, or some other cheaper option would make sense.

Lastly, the bullpen could use a bit more help. Aroldis Chapman might be fun, but he might not be the best fit. A cheaper rental might make more sense, similar to what the Phillies have done the last few years with a half-season rental reliever pickup.

But, regardless of whom the Phillies target, Murray is expecting the Phillies to be aggressive this summer in pursuit of help at the trade deadline. This could be a very exciting August 3 for the Phillies, as some help could be on the way in a month.
