It has been quite an eventful season for almost every team in the league. With LeBron James not returning to the Los Angeles Lakers, Ja Morant getting traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, and Giannis Antetokounmpo finally getting moved to the Miami Heat, the NBA has been spoiled. However, many were still shocked when Jaylen Brown got traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.
While a lot of people expected Brown to be traded, the return the Boston Celtics got was not what people foresaw. Considering he is a superstar who just had an elite 2025-26 campaign, only getting Paul George and a fairly significant draft pick haul was surprising to a lot of people.
Tim MacMahon gives Jaylen Brown a reality check about his league-wide value
While Brown had an elite run in the 2025-26 season, it seems he was still unpopular around the league. When Brad Stevens, his longtime coach turned general manager, fell out with Brown, it was game over for the 2024 Finals MVP in Boston.
Now, he will be playing in Philadelphia, where he is being set up for success. Playing alongside Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid can work out for him, as the trade has made the 76ers contenders all of a sudden. Of course, there are still a lot of things to iron out, but having a superstar like Brown is a godsend.

While the 76ers benefit from the trade, many teams around the league might not have pulled the trigger on a similar move. This was revealed by Tim MacMahon, who revealed that front offices do not see the high-end value with Brown.
"The analytics-driven front offices believe that Jaylen Brown is significantly overpaid, and they don't value him nearly as much as listen to this Jaylen, the media does, to be just straight up. Like the media is the one who votes on all those awards," MacMahon said on The Hoop Collective.
As the NBA offseason progresses, it will be interesting to see how this affects the rest of the league. It could be a game-changer because Brown might not have had value around the league, but he might make the general managers regret not trading for him with a stellar season coming up for Philly.
