Phillies' top prospect most likely to be traded for MLB help revealed by insider

Dave Dombrowski and the Philadelphia Phillies are expected to be aggressive buyers at the MLB trade deadline this summer.

With needs in the rotation, bullpen, and outfield, the Phillies have to utilize their underwhelming farm system to land some top-tier players who could actually help the team make a World Series run.

To land such a player, the Phillies will have to trade a top prospect or two. Matt Gelb of The Athletic revealed the one prospect most likely to be traded, and it's an ascending pitching prospect who has become beloved by the fanbase: Ramon Marquez.

"Marquez fits the mold of prospect the Phillies have dealt at past deadlines; a pop-up starting pitching who has considerable development time still ahead," Gelb writes.

While there might be a lot of development ahead for Marquez, as Gelb notes, "Marquez grades well on rival teams' models, according to analysts with several teams who were granted anonymity to speak freely."

The 20-year-old right-handed pitching prospect has ascended the Phillies' farm system rankings and is now one of the most important prospects for the franchise.

He has a 2.02 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) this season, with a 2.25 ERA in 20 innings of work across four starts at High-A, and a .186 ERA in 29 innings at Single-A.

One of the appealing things about Marquez is his high strikeout rate, as he has 76 strikeouts this season in 49 innings pitched. It pairs nicely with just 17 walks, as he's a strike-throwing starter with some high upside.

But, with this report that Marquez is the most likely player to be traded by the Phillies at the deadline, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the 20-year-old righty on the move this summer.

The Phillies need help in the rotation, the bullpen, and the outfield on their big league roster. To get such help, they're going to need to give up a lot at the trade deadline.

While developing Marquez into a big-league starter would be fun, his value is as high as ever, and he might be the key piece that lands the Phillies a player who could actually make a difference in their World Series odds this season.
