The Philadelphia Phillies have three major needs at the 2026 MLB trade deadline, one of which being a right-handed hitting outfielder.
But the market for such players is fairly barren. Jo Adell of the Los Angeles Angels might be their best option. However, Adell might be too expensive.
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Phillies received a projected trade cost for Adell, which is a three-prospect package that's probably more than the Phillies should give up for someone like Adell.
Phillies projected trade cost for Jo Adell should have Philly rethinking a deal
"A package of Dante Nori, Gabe Craig, and Ramon Marquez could entice the Angels' new leadership to make a deal," Bowden writes on Adell, whom he called the Phillies' best fit.
Adell is a 27-year-old power-hitting outfielder who is a right-handed slugger. He's the exact kind of player the Phillies need. He is also under control for the 2027 season, so he's not a rental.
However, after hitting 37 homers last year in 526 at-bats, Adell has 11 in 351 at-bats this season. That's a 6.5 home-run rate compared to a 2.9 home-run rate this season, a brutal drop-off.
His OPS has also dropped significantly, sitting at .778 last year and just .677 this season. IF the Phillies add Adell, he'd strictly have to be a platoon hitter against left-handed pitching. But, at this cost, the Phillies should rethink their interest in Adell.

Dante Nori is a top prospect for the Phillies, and the 21-year-old outfielder is not someone the Phillies should give up so easily. But, he is a likely trade chip this year, so being included in this kind of deal wouldn't be a surprise. The issue is who's also in the deal.
Gabe Craig is a 25-year-old prospect who wouldn't be a huge loss, but he has a 2.93 ERA in the minors this season, and might be a solid reliever at the MLB level in the not-too-distant future.
The real issue is Marquez. The 20-year-old right-handed starting pitching prospect is going to rise up prospect rankings with the year he's having. In 44 innings across nine games (eight starts), Marquez has a 2.05 ERA with 67 strikeouts.
Parting with Marquez, Nori, and Craig for a year and a half of Adell would be far too steep a cost for the Phillies. While all three could be trade chips this year, sending all in one move for Adell would be a huge mistake.
