After another disappointing season, the Philadelphia Phillies need to make some major changes to the roster to try to return to the World Series with this core.

Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and the entire starting rotation aren't going anywhere. But just about everything else could see some change this offseason. One area this team will have to look to upgrade is in the outfield. It's been a liability for too long.

So, with an outfield need in mind, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer is predicting the Phillies will trade Orion Kerkering to the Boston Red Sox and, in exchange, land All-Star Game MVP Jarren Duran to bolster their outfield this offseason in a very fascinating deal.

Phillies predicted to trade Orion Kerkering for Jarren Duran

"The Philadelphia Phillies will trade for Jarren Duran," Rymer predicts. "... As for what a deal could look like, how does everyone like the sound of this challenge trade? Duran for Orion Kerkering."

Dave Dombrowski was with the Red Sox when Duran was drafted in 2018, so there's reason to believe he'll have some interest in the left-handed hitting outfielder.

Duran would make a ton of sense for the Phillies, especially with how poorly Brandon Marsh played down the stretch last season for the Phillies.

Marsh was one of the worst players in MLB after the All-Star break. Duran, even coming off a down year in which he posted just 0.4 bWAR and hit .207 with 20 homers and a 76 OPS+, would be an upgrade over Marsh from the second half of 2026.

This prediction from Rymer would be a fantastic outcome for the Phillies, as moving on from Kerkering makes too much sense. He's in dire need of a change of scenery, and joining a Red Sox bullpen as a depth option makes a lot of sense.

Boston might want more for Duran, but after his struggles in 2026, the Phillies might be able to get him at a bit of a discount. He is only under club control through 2028, after all.

But with Duran's struggles and his limited club control, the Red Sox might be willing to finally part with him. A trade to the Phillies, an outfield-needy team, would make sense. Kerkering is a sensible trade chip for Philadelphia this offseason as well.

While this prediction is a long shot, this is the kind of deal that Dombrowski should be trying to make this offseason. Kerkering might have some trade value, and if he could bring back someone like Duran, it should be a no-brainer for the Phillies to accept.
