Phillies predicted to sign 44-homer slugger in free agency blockbuster

The Philadelphia Phillies are loaded with star talent, but it was not enough to get them to the World Series in 2024. They could look to bring in another star to make a deep run in 2025.

While listing the top 20 free agents and predicting where they would sign, FanSided's Nick Villano predicted that the Phillies would land Baltimore Orioles slugger Anthony Santander.

"The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to get back to the World Series themselves, and they’ve been known to spend money on their offense. They are looking to replace some of the production of their former stars and they’ll look to put serious pop in their lineup. With Bryce Harper playing first base full-time, the Phillies could really use a bat out there. Santander would be an awesome pickup for Philadelphia, and Santander wouldn’t even have to move that far," wrote Villano.

Santander hit 44 home runs in 2024 and was named an All-Star for the first time in his career. Spotrac projects him to sign a five-year, $88 million deal in free agency. He can play either of the corner outfield spots. The Phillies ranked 20th with a .610 OPS from center field last season.

Signing Santander could allow them to move Brandon Marsh to center field full-time, allowing Santander to play left field. Santander would bring some serious power to the Phillies lineup, not that they are lacking. However, the Phillies ranked 22nd in home runs from the right side of the plate. Santander is a switch hitter but could bring some power from that side of the dish. He hit 12 of his home runs as a right-handed hitter last year.
