Broncos encouraged to sign Saints tight end in 2025 wave of free agency

When the 2024 NFL season ends, regardless of the amount of success the Denver Broncos achieve, the team is going to need to look at options at the tight end position.

Through 11 games this season, the Broncos have had just 29 receptions made by tight ends. Greg Dulcich has been a healthy scratch for most of the season. The Broncos are going to need to find another tight end either in the draft or free agency and all options should be considered.

The Scouting Department over at Bleacher Report has come up with one option and suggests that the Broncos should look at current New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson, who is set to hit free agency following the season. While he wouldn't be the big-splash signing many are hoping for, he would improve the tight end group with his athleticism and ability as a receiver.

Johnson has caught 25 passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns this season, which is on pace for the numbers he posted in 2022 and 2023. He was undrafted coming out of college in 2020. He played for Penn State and Oregon and signed with the Saints, who were still coached by Sean Payton at the time.

For his career, he has 121 receptions, 1,351 yards and 17 touchdowns. He will be 29 years old next season, but with a weak depth chart and an uncertain future regarding Dulcich, Johnson would be a good, low-cost signing.

Broncos could take a look at Colston Loveland in the draft

If the Broncos want to add a blue chip prospect at the tight end position, Michigan's Colston Loveland fits the bill and he has been connected to the team through several mock drafts.

Loveland is the best tight end prospect for 2025 according to several draft analysts, but the Broncos could have bigger needs at other positions, so taking Loveland may not be their best move.

Either way, at least one new tight end needs to be found during the offseason.
