The Philadelphia Phillies are entering an offseason that could see them parting ways with several key players on expiring contracts. One name that fans in Philadelphia are watching closely is Kyle Schwarber. However, the Phillies have been issued a strong warning about the potential risks of bringing him back.
“The Phillies should not re-sign Schwarber to a multi-year contract. Not signing him will hurt the club offensively and the front office would need to have a plan to replace the home run hitter. However, what if they bring him back for multiple years and he begins to decline? Either decision brings a certain amount of risk,” TBOH’s Matt Grazel wrote. “This roster needs substantial changes. While unpopular and risky, the decision not to re-sign Schwarber represents the best chance for Dombrowski to shake up the roster, which is necessary at this point.”
If the Phillies decide to move on from Schwarber, they could pursue a major addition to replace both him and Nick Castellanos.
“Our crystal ball thinks the Philadelphia Phillies will be even more motivated to add Tucker following back-to-back exits from the Divisional Series,” Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley wrote. “Prediction: Tucker signs with Philadelphia.”
Kyle Tucker is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in this year’s free-agent class. A bidding war is expected, and his next contract will be one of the largest of the offseason.
“Predicted Contract: 10 years, $350 million. This would be the fifth-largest contract ever given to an outfielder, and only Juan Soto ($51 million), Aaron Judge ($40 million) and Mike Trout ($35.5 million) clock in with a higher AAV on their deals,” Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter wrote.
Tucker would be a massive addition for the Phillies and a strong replacement, particularly for Castellanos. When healthy, the right fielder is among the very best at his position.
Philadelphia is desperate to bring another World Series title to the City of Brotherly Love — and landing Tucker could be the move that finally gets them there.
