The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the more obvious contenders this season that desperately needs to add more help to their offense by the August 3 trade deadline.
Specifically, a right-handed slugger is a must-add for this Phillies team. While the outfield has been the area of interest for the Phillies, they've recently been linked to San Francisco Giants infielder Matt Chapman.
Robert Murray of Fansided.com shared that a rival MLB executive thought the Phillies would make sense in a trade for Chapman. However, there is one big problem with a possible Chapman trade for the Phillies: Chapman's $100 million contract.
Phillies have one big issue with potential Matt Chapman trade
"A rival executive thought that the Philadelphia Phillies make sense for Chapman," Murray writes. "... But again: the fact that Chapman is signed for another four years and $100 million - his age-34 to age-37 seasons - is a significant hurdle for the Phillies."
Adding Chapman in a trade would be a huge upgrade over Bohm. Chapman has been one of the best third basemen in MLB this season, as he has a .252 average with seven homers and 2.9 bWAR with a .737 OPS and 111 OPS+.
Bohm has played better lately, but overall, his production with a .227 average, -0.5 bWAR, .648 OPS, and 75 OPS+, is well below what Chapman's doing this season.
If the Phillies could add Chapman, he would instantly be a huge upgrade over Bohm and be a fantastic cleanup hitter for this team. The issue is that a trade would come at a huge cost.

Not only would the Phillies have to part with some good prospects to land Chapman in a deal, but they would also have to take on a massive $100 million over the next four years for someone who is already 33 years old.
It's a massive risk for the Phillies, and is the one major hurdle that could put an end to any trade for Chapman before it gets moving.
Also, because of his no-trade clause, Chapman has total control over whether he's traded. Even if the Phillies decide to take on his huge contract, it's far from a guarantee that Chapman will accept a deal.
Unfortunately, for Phillies fans who have identified Chapman as a trade target, a deal for the Giants' All-Star third baseman doesn't look very likely at all.
