Cowboys sign former 2nd-round pick WR to join CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy

The Dallas Cowboys have a talented WR depth chart, led by CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and the up-and-coming Ryan Flournoy.

They've added to that on Thursday with the signing of Denzel Mims, the former second-round pick of the New York Jets.

Mims was signed as one of three players out of the UFL to join Dallas, according to ESPN's Todd Archer:

The Cowboys have agreed to terms with 3 UFL players: WR Denzel Mims, CB Ameer Speed, OL Chris Glaser, per sources. To make room, Matt Hennessy to IR and DB Corey Ballentine and WR Romello Brinson have been released. One roster spot remains open as training camp awaits.

Mims has played the last two seasons in the UFL.

In 2025 with the St. Louis Battlehawks, he had five catches for 51 yards in six games.

In 2026, he had six catches for 55 yards in five games.

The quarterback play in the UFL isn't great, but those still aren't notable numbers.

At this point, Mims is more about pedigree. He was the No. 59 overall pick (second round) in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Baylor by the New York Jets.

He played in parts of three seasons with the Jets, catching 23 passes as a rookie, then 8 and 11 catches the next two seasons.

Mims didn't catch a single touchdown in his NFL tenure.

He was traded to the Lions in July 2023, but he didn't make their team. He has spent brief periods with the Steelers and Jaguars but never suited up for them in the regular season.

The 6-foot-3 Mims is still just 28 years old, so Dallas is going to see if there's anything notable left in the tank of this once-promising wideout.
