Phillies' Kyle Schwarber beats out Shohei Ohtani for NL MLBPA Outstanding Player Award

The Philadelphia Phillies came up short in the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but aside from the Phillies' pitching staff stifling Shohei Ohtani at the plate, the superstar two-way player didn't get out unscathed from the Phillies' hitters in Game 1.

Ohtani is likely heading towards another MVP award in the National League, as he had another incredible year. But Kyle Schwarber will likely finish inside the top three for the award, even if he doesn't beat out Ohtani for the honors.

However, as voted on by Major Leaguers, Schwarber beat out Ohtani for the NL Outstanding Player award by the MLBPA.

Schwarber had his best season since signing with the Phillies. He started all 162 games in 2025 and set some personal history in the process.

He finished the season with 145 hits, 111 runs scored, 23 doubles, two triples, 56 home runs, 132 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, 108 walks, and a career high 4.7 bWAR.

Schwarber hit .240 on the year with a .365 on-base percentage, .563 slugging percentage, and a career-high .928 OPS and 150 OPS+.

His 56 home runs were the most by any National League hitter, and his 132 RBIs led all of Major League Baseball.

After such a career year, where he helped lead the Phillies to a 96-66 record and their second straight NL East division title, Schwarber was voted by his peers as the most Outstanding Player in the National League.

Heading into free agency, Schwarber could depart this winter for a new team. While his contract demands were already incredibly high, this award only further proves that Schwarber is in line for a busy free agent market.
