Phillies have a big Trea Turner problem that could use another standing ovation

1 hour ago 2

The Philadelphia Phillies' offense during the 2026 season has been one of the worst in all of Major League Baseball. They rank third-to-last in team OPS at .687, and it's not Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, or Brandon Marsh's fault that things aren't going well.

Looking across the roster, the struggles of the right-handed hitters are clearly why the offense is worse than normal. But, more specifically, Trea Turner's struggles are becoming a serious problem.

As Destiny Lugardo of Phillies Nation notes, Turner's .607 OPS during the 2026 season is worse than the worst mark during his standing ovation season of .642 OPS. This problem might need another standing ovation from Phillies fans to fix this summer.

It might be time for another standing ovation for Trea Turner

"The lowest his OPS dipped to in the standing ovation season was .642 on June 4," Lugardo notes. "It's at .607 right now."

During the standing ovation season, Turner's struggles were something of great concern. And for the Phillies fanbase, they took it upon themselves to try and help Turner, giving him a standing ovation despite his struggles.

It somehow worked, and he turned his season around, and he's since been a much better player for the Phillies than before that standing ovation.

Even in his debut season with the Phillies, his .778 OPS by the end of the year was a fairly solid mark. He then had an .807 OPS in 2024, followed by an .812 OPS in 2025.

Unfortunately, things have gotten a lot worse for Turner this year, as his .607 OPS is a very bad mark, and his 65 OPS+ is nearly half of his 121 OPS+ mark from a year ago.

Turner has been a massive disappointment this season, and he's one of the main problems with the team's lackluster offense right now.

While another standing ovation might not work, if there were ever a time for the Phillies fanbase to test its luck with this standing ovation power, it would be soon, with Turner's struggles holding this offense back.
