The Philadelphia Phillies are in the middle of a brutal losing streak. If it weren't for the New York Mets 12-game losing streak, the Phillies would be the focus of the MLB world.
But that isn't to say the Phillies aren't in some dire straits. They've dropped seven straight games, and things are only getting worse.
According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, the Phillies are placing J.T. Realmuto on the injured list. Amid this seven-game losing streak, with the team desperately in need of offensive firepower, this is bad news at the worst possible time.
Phillies lose J.T. Realmuto to IL at worst time
"The Phillies, losers of seven straight and owners of the worst run differential in MLB, will be without their starting catcher for at least 10 days," Gelb writes. "J.T. Realmuto will go on the injured list with a lower back injury, league sources told The Athletic."
This is some terrible news for the Phillies, as they're now losing their starting catcher in the middle of a brutal seven-game losing streak.
Jhoan Duran also landed on the injured list a few days ago, and while Zack Wheeler's set to return soon, the team is still in the net negative when it comes to their health this year.
To fill the void at catcher, Rafael Marchan and Garrett Stubbs will split time behind the plate for the Phillies.

This is a brutal loss for the Phillies' presence behind the plate, but it's also a tough loss offensively. Realmuto was hitting .259 with a .696 OPS, which, unfortunately, is one of the better marks of any Phillies hitter this season.
Stubbs has yet to play in the Majors this year, but he's never been a great hitter. Marchan has had his moments, but this season, he is hitting just .065 with a .255 OPS.
The Phillies are getting a lot worse offensively and defensively with this Realmuto news, and it's coming at the worst time possible.
The Phillies will need to find their groove without their closer and now their starting catcher. It's tough times in Philadelphia, as this news is another brutal blow for the Phillies during the 2026 season.
