Phillies catcher has best reaction to worst strike three call of MLB season

4 hours ago 1

Catchers are very subtle, but they often tell you exactly what they thought of a pitch call through their body language.

On Thursday in Colorado, Phillis catcher Rafael Marchan wasn't subtle at all. Frankly, it looked like his brain couldn't compute what just happened.

Marchan went to throw the ball back to the pitcher on a two-strike count because the pitch clearly missed the zone. Only after a shocking strike three call did Marchan readjust and throw the ball around the horn.

It was a huge moment, a 0-0 game in the third inning with Rockies on first-and-third and two out. Slugger Hunter Goodman was in the box, facing a 1-2 count.

Phillies lefty Ranger Suarez fired a fastball well outside, away to the righty Goodman.

Home plate umpire Jonathan Parra rung Goodman up anyway.

That's pretty fantastic on a number of levels (just not the strike call itself).

Everyone looked a little stunned.

Talk about a pitcher-friendly umpire. So pitcher-friendly that Marchan couldn't even believe it.
