Phillies called a 'strong fit' for All-Star Red Sox outfielder with one big problem

There is no secret that the Philadelphia Phillies are looking around Major League Baseball in search of outfield help as the trade deadline approaches.

Adolis Garcia might miss the rest of the season, and they already had a dire need for outfield help. So, it would be no surprise for the Phillies to be linked to every outfield trade option that might be available this summer.

All-Star Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was called a "strong fit" by The Athletic's Jim Bowden. But, there is one problem with Duran being a fit in Philadelphia: Duran is a left-handed hitter. The Phillies have plenty of those, and they need righties.

Phillies have one problem with being called 'strong fit' for Jarren Duran trade

"I'm being told by GMs that the Phillies' front office is on the prowl for an impact outfielder," Bowden writes. "I think Buxton would be an excellent trade target if he waives his no-trade clause. I also think Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu of the Red Sox would be strong fits."

Bowden, a former MLB general manager, believes that Duran would be a strong fit for the Phillies this season in a trade.

While they might need outfield help, and badly, following the Garcia injury, Duran isn't actually someone the Phillies should over-pursue.

Yes, the Phillies are looking for outfield help. But, it's not a left-handed hitting one. They are on the hunt for a right-handed hitting outfielder this summer.

Brandon Marsh is a great left-handed hitting outfielder, and with Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, this offense is sorely missing a good right-handed hitter.

Duran has a .211 batting average and .655 OPS this season, but he's been better lately with a .762 OPS and 10 homers since May 1. There are sure to be some clubs showing an interest in trading for Duran this summer.

But the Phillies shouldn't be one of those teams; instead, they should be looking to upgrade their outfield with a right-handed hitter. Another lefty with offensive numbers that aren't overly impressive won't be a big help to this team.

Despite Bowden calling Duran a "strong fit" with the Phillies, Dave Dombrowski and company would be better off passing on Duran, as he's a left-handed hitter.
