Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola was masterful in Monday night's 1-0 win over the Miami Marlins. Nola tossed six shutout innings, gave up five hits, walked none and struck out five on 94 pitches (61 strikes).
Nola’s start on Monday was the first time this season he had not allowed a walk. He had seven combined in eight innings in his last two outings.
Nola kept hitters off balance and did his job of keeping the Marlins hitters at bay, with first baseman Bryce Harper’s home run the only run scored.
This was the Phillies' second series win of the season since winning back-to-back series on March 31 to April 5 versus the Washington Nationals and Colorado Rockies.
Aaron Nola wanted to try to “put up as many zeros as possible” for the Philadelphia Phillies
“I hadn't been doing my job much this year. I hadn't been giving those guys, the hitters, I hadn't been putting them in the best chance to score some runs,”Nola said postgame. “But today, I tried to go out and put up as many zeros as possible, and limit the base runners and damage giving them a chance. Obviously, it's a close score in the game, but I mean, the starters overall this series have been pitching pretty well.”

Overall, Nola is 2-3 with a 5.06 ERA in 37.1 innings. Before Monday’s start Nola’s ERA was at 6.03.
Getting Nola back to the All-Star form he was in 2018 will help the Phillies continue to get back on track. Nola has proven he has ace-level stuff, as he's finished in the top 10 of Cy Young Award voting three times (2018, 2020, and 2022), while finishing 11th in 2024.
