Phil Mickelson reacted on social media after Washington Attorney General Nick Brown warned citizen journalists to stop investigating alleged issues linked to Somali-run daycare centers.

Brown’s warning came as claims circulated online that some daycare facilities were receiving public funds despite showing little sign of active childcare operations. A post shared on social media alleged that certain locations had no children, toys, or visible daycare activity.

Nick Brown said people investigating these facilities could face consequences, including possible hate crime charges. He added that concerns should be reported through official channels.

An Instagram user shared the update on X, writing:

“Washington State AG Warns Citizen Journalists To Stop Investigating Somali Daycares Or Face Potential Hate Crime Charges”

Mickelson responded to the post by questioning the approach, writing:

“So the problem is the investigation and not the fraud?”

@zerohedge So the problem is the investigation and not the fraud?

Phil Mickelson has often shared his views on political and government-related issues on social media. He has also commented on matters involving the Somali community in the past.

Phil Mickelson’s earlier comments on immigration and Somali leaders

Phil Mickelson has previously shared strong political opinions related to Somali leaders and U.S. immigration policy. In September, Mickelson reacted to comments made by Congresswoman Ilhan Omar about the late podcaster Charlie Kirk. Omar said Kirk had “spread hate” and should be “left in the dustbin of history.”

Mickelson replied on X with a post calling for Omar’s deportation, writing:

"Ilhan spews hate every time she opens her mouth, she came here fraudulently and will hopefully be sent back to Somalia soon."

Ilhan spews hate every time she opens her mouth, she came here fraudulently and will hopefully be sent back to Somalia soon.

Phil Mickelson has also shared views on U.S. immigration more broadly. In December, he reacted to a clip of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey discussing immigration and the city’s refusal to cooperate with ICE.

The clip showed Frey responding to remarks by President Donald Trump, who had linked the Somali community to alleged fraud cases in Minnesota and repeated his criticism of immigration. Mickelson, who has previously expressed support for Trump, responded by criticizing U.S. immigration policy, writing:

“The US is way too lenient on illegal immigration. “

He then compared immigration penalties in other countries with those in the United States, arguing that enforcement in the U.S. was far less strict. The post came at a time when attention was focused on Somali immigrants in Minneapolis and St. Paul, with The New York Times reporting that hundreds of undocumented Somali immigrants could be affected by increased enforcement in the area.
