The Denver Nuggets were hoping for the best but preparing for the worst after Peyton Watson exited the franchise’s Wednesday night contest against the New York Knicks with a hamstring injury.
The 6-foot-8 emerging star suffered the setback late in the clash and didn’t return, which wasn’t ideal in any way, shape, or form. All Watson could do was wait for an official injury diagnosis and potential return timeline.
On Thursday, the Athletic’s Tony Jones revealed valuable information about Peyton’s injury, and his report is terrible news for the Nuggets.
“BREAKING: Denver Nuggets forward Peyton Watson has suffered a grade 2 left hamstring strain and is expected to miss extended time,” Jones reported on X/Twitter. “Watson had been a breakout star for the Nuggets. This adds to their injury misfortune.”
The Nuggets can’t catch a break this season. Cameron Johnson, Nikola Jokic, and Christian Braun have all suffered injuries, but two have since returned to Denver’s lineup (Johnson is still out with a knee injury).
Watson was beginning to come into his own with the Nuggets before his recent lower-body setback, leaving Denver fans to ponder why the franchise can’t have nice things.
The multi-dimensional 6-foot-8 guard is averaging 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game with Denver this year while shooting 49.6% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc.
Unfortunately, Watson will be sidelined for several games, weakening Denver’s starting unit.
