The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC, said in a statement Thursday that it initiated a recall on about 833,000 units after Peloton received three reports of the seat post detaching from the bike during use, resulting in two injuries from a fall. The CPSC warned Peloton users to immediately stop using the affected bikes.

The Canadian government also issued a recall for the same model on Thursday affecting 44,800 units, but said it had not received any reports of incidents in the country. Shares of Peloton fell 5.2% at 10:47 a.m. in New York.

All three incidents in the US involved riders who weighed more than 250 pounds, according to Canada’s recall notice. The company’s website lists the maximum user weight as 297 pounds. A Peloton spokesperson declined to comment on how many Bike+ units are in use.

“The integrity of our products and our members’ well-being are our top priorities,” the spokesperson said. “We are taking this opportunity to make replacement seat posts available to all affected Bike+ users and we encourage them to contact us to receive the redesigned seat post as soon as possible.”

The recall is the latest setback for Peloton, which replaced its chief executive officer in January and is attempting to deliver on a turnaround following a post-pandemic sales slump. The company last month announced upgraded hardware across its lineup and also raised prices on monthly subscription plans, prompting concern from investors that the higher fees would deter new customers from signing up.

The company is scheduled to report results from its fiscal first quarter after US markets close on Thursday. Wall Street is expecting $542.8 million in revenue for the period, according to Bloomberg-compiled estimates, which would amount to a 7.4% decline from the year-earlier period.

Thursday’s recall carries echoes of a similar episode. In 2023, Peloton recalled more than 2 million seats for its original Bike product.

The latest recall applies to the Peloton Original Series Bike+ Model PL02, which was manufactured between 2019 and 2022 and features serial numbers beginning with the letter “T.” The products were sold at Peloton and other retailers from January 2020 to April 2025 for $2,495.

Peloton will notify affected users on Thursday to share steps on how to receive a new seat post, the spokesperson said.
