The New York Knicks received disappointing news on Wednesday, as ESPN’s Shams Charania announced that standout rebounder Mitchell Robinson was leaving New York for a three-year, $47 million deal with the Boston Celtics.
According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Knicks have been doing their due diligence to keep their frontcourt afloat, as they’ve reportedly reached out to the New Orleans Pelicans to inquire about their high-upside big man Yves Missi.
Unfortunately for New York, New Orleans has shown no sign of cutting ties with Missi anytime soon.
“Sources: New York Knicks have tried feverishly to trade for New Orleans Pelicans center Yves Missi after losing Mitchell Robinson, but offers have been rejected multiple times,” Haynes wrote on X/Twitter Thursday. “Pelicans view Missi as a vital core figure, and the message is that he’s unavailable.”
The good news for the Knicks is that they have company: the Los Angeles Lakers are another franchise that has recently pursued Missi and received a rejection.
“Multiple teams, including the Lakers, have reached out to the Pelicans about Yves Missi, but the Pelicans have resisted those offers,” SNY’s Ian Begley reported last Tuesday.
At the end of the day, Missi, who’s viewed as a valuable developmental frontcourt piece with encouraging potential on both ends, appears destined to remain with the Pelicans for years to come.
The Baylor product averaged 5.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game with the Pelicans last year, shooting 54.4% from the field in 66 contests.
While the Lakers are in solid shape after landing Walker Kessler on Wednesday, the Knicks have no choice but to look elsewhere for low-post trade options after Haynes’ informative report.
