Pedro Martinez reveals the Blue Jays' problem, except he may not be right

The Toronto Blue Jays have struggled to match the success that they had a season ago.

One guy, former Boston Red Sox ace Pedro Martinez, thinks he knows what's wrong. Now an analyst, Martinez chimed in on social media on Tuesday night.

This is what he posted on X:

Vlady Jr. can’t do it alone. He’s missing some key guys, and the team needs to move quickly, either get healthy or bring in some help. #mlbontbs

So on the surface, Pedro is right. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. can't do it alone.

But that suggests that Vladdy himself has been doing a lot this season. And that's sort of missing the point.

Guerrero's power has been mostly missing, even as he heats up of late. His OPS for the season is just .740.

For his career, even counting these struggles, Vladdy has an .856 OPS, so this is well off that pace.

He's hitting a lot more singles than usual, as his batting average is still .280, but he has just three home runs through 175 at bats.

Guerrero was always due for some regression after last year's absurdly potent playoff run, but this is a regression past the mean. He should have some positive bounceback soon, it would seem.

But as far as Pedro's point is concerned, Guerrero needs to help himself out, too. Even Vladdy isn't doing enough right now.
