Paul Scholes lambasts Marcus Rashford over attitude issues amid Barcelona punishment

Marcus Rashford has received a major opportunity to re-establish his footballing career at Barcelona where he is on loan from Manchester United

The England international has fallen out of the favour with United manager Ruben Amorim and therefore he was loaned out to Aston Villa for the second half of the season.

Rashford did impress in his short stint with Villa but considering their PSR challenges, they failed to sign him permanently.

He returned to United and was later loaned out to Barcelona as they desperately needed a player in attack to maintain a required level of depth in the roster.

The 27-year-old has had an encouraging start to his life at Camp Nou with two goals and a solitary assist from five appearances for the Catalans.

Barcelona supporters were unsure about the English attacker when he completed his loan move this summer, but he has won them over with his recent performance against Newcastle United in their Champions League opener at St. James Park.

Rashford scored a brilliant brace against the Magpies as Barcelona eked out a 2-1 win in the Champions League in a tough away trip. Both of his goals were fantastic, highlighting his talent and hunger.

However, just when people started thinking that Rashford has earned Hansi Flick's trust the 27-year-old was late to training and as a result he was relegated to the bench against Getafe as a disciplinary action.

Eventually Rashford replaced Raphinha at the start of the second half and within 16 minutes of action, the Englishman provided an assist for Dani Olmo as Barcelona registered a 3-0 win over Getafe.

What did Scholes say about Rashford over his attitude issues?

Scholes is known for being outspoken, more so as a football pundit as he schooled Rashford for quitting on Man United and now doing the same things at Barcelona on loan.

The former Man United player feels it is hard for him to feel happy about the 27-year-old mainly due to the fact that he gave up on his boyhood club.

Marcus Rashford of Barcelona

"There's no doubt the talent that kid has got, it's ridiculous, he's shown up in a big game, and that second goal was brilliant,' Scholes said of Rashford on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.

"I really struggle to feel happy for Marcus Rashford.

"Mainly because of his attitude. His attitude towards Man United towards the end was disgraceful. The amount of times I saw him walking because he wanted to leave… His whole demeanour about him was a disgrace.

"I think he quit on Man Utd. When you quit once, you’ll quit again. He was late last night [for Barcelona]. He wont get away with that for long at Barca. There’s absolutely no chance. How can you sleep in these days? Your phone, f*cking alarm, whatever. How can you sleep in?

“He’s definitely got the talent to be [one of the best players in the world]. But he’ll never have the mentality."

This is not the first time Rashford has been facing a disciplinary action, he was dropped during Erik ten Hag era at United in January 2024 when he missed a training session in Belfast. He was also late for training ahead of the Wolves game back in the 2022/23 season.
