Fantasy Football Usage Week 3: Targets, touches, snap counts utilization trends

6 hours ago 4

There is nothing more valuable in fantasy football than usage. When people think of usage, their mind immediately goes to targets. While targets are the most common and are extremely important, there are two other stats we can look at.

Touches and snap count/share are both just as crucial as targets. PPR leagues are popular, so that's why targets get more recognition.

Touches are virtually the same as targetes, except you don't get a full point for the touch. Snap share is also a huge tell on whether the team values a specific player to contribute on offense.

Without further ado, here is the utilization report for Week 3.

LAST WEEK’S RECAP: What happened in fantasy Week 3 | Week 3 Injuries

Fantasy targets Week 3 news & trends

Christian McCaffrey, RB, San Francisco 49ers: 15 targets

In Week 3, there were just two players with 15 targets. One was Puka Nacua, the WR1 in his offense; the other was CMC.

CMC is tied with Malik Nabers for the third most total targets in the entire NFL at 32. The only two players above them are Nacua and Chris Olave.

It might not be surprising to hear that CMC leads all running backs in targets through 3 weeks. However, the second most is De'Von Achane with 23 (9 less than CMC), and then the third most is Bijan Robinson with just 18 targets (14 behind CMC).

With all the pass catchers being injured for the Niners, and George Kittle expected to continue missing a chunk of time, there's no reason for this sort of volume to stop.

Chris Olave, WR, New Orleans Saints: 14 targets

There is not enough talk surrounding the target share Chris Olave is receiving. He just received 14 targets in Week 3, which is not just a season high, but was one shy of his career high.

Olave has seen double-digit targets in each of the first 3 weeks of the season. He sits at 37 total targets through 3 weeks, which is number 1 in the entire NFL.

Now, this offense is quite bad, so if you are not in a PPR scoring format, I can see how this doesn't appeal to you. But this sort of volume should not go unnoticed.

TOP FANTASY PICKUPS: Week 4 waiver wire

Fantasy touches Week 3 news & trends

Drake Maye, QB, New England Patriots: 7 rushing attempts

Full transparency, this week was not crazy from an attempt standpoint for Drake Maye, but I needed to talk about him. In Week 3, Maye rushed for the second-most yards and had the fourth-most attempts from the QB.

Through the first 3 weeks of the season, Maye has had the third most rush attempts behind just Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen. If this sort of trend continues, he's going to comfortably be the QB10 or better on the year.

Drake Maye is fulfilling the prophecy.

Maye currently ranks 2nd in completion percentage (72.6%), 11th in Y/A (7.4), & is posting a 5-2 TD-INT ratio.

More importantly – he’s averaging 7 rushing attempts per-game (pace of 119) & averaging 20.8 fantasy PPG (QB7 through WK3). pic.twitter.com/YcBU1iJLUj

Outside of the rushing volume, he's been getting things done through the air, too. As a result, he sits at the overall QB5 through 3 weeks (this is before Lamar Jackson or Jared Goff plays).

Omarion Hampton, RB, Los Angeles Chargers: 25 touches

Managers who traded away Omarion Hampton made the right choice; he was losing work and looked lackluster in the process. It was absolutely the right decision...and then Najee Harris tore his Achilles.

Following the Harris injury, Hampton proceeded to explode. Yes, the volume was high, but Hampton looked the best he has all season by far.

Hampton was given 25 total touches in Week 3 against the Broncos; this was the second-most, only behind CMC.

If this sort of production continues, and Hampton looks that dynamic, it's going to be an insane turnaround for the rookie out of North Carolina.

Fantasy snap count Week 3 news & trends

Quinshon Judkins, RB, Cleveland Browns: 55% snap share

If you are a Quinshon Judkins manager, you should be celebrating tremendously after what transpired in Week 3. Judkins' talent was apparent in the draft process, but with missing all of camp and preseason, it was not clear if he'd be the RB1 right away.

— PFF Fantasy (@PFF_Fantasy) September 22, 2025

In Week 3, Judkins was indeed the RB1 of the Browns offense. He played 55% of the snaps compared to Jerome Ford's 36%. Dylan Sampson, who poses a bigger threat to Judkins, played just 8% of the snaps.

With this snap share, Judkins looked phenomenal against one of the best defenses in the NFL. Despite facing the Green Bay Packers, Judkins put up 94 rushing yards and 1 touchdown.

Unless your RB room is stacked, he is a must-start from this point on in fantasy football.

Garrett Wilson, WR, New York Jets: 100% snap share

We knew coming into 2025 that Garrett Wilson's usage was going to be insane. The question was whether or not he'd be able to produce in such a bad offense.

Wilson is WR9 overall in fantasy football through the first two weeks. We know Wilson is talented, but this sort of production has everything to do with the volume.

Wilson was the only WR to play 100% of the snaps for their team in Week 3. This is also his second time doing it this season, as he also played all the snaps in Week 1.

Regardless of who is at QB or how bad the offense gets, with this sort of usage, Wilson will continue to show out for fantasy football.
