Arsenal legend Paul Merson has boldly claimed that the Chelsea squad is not good enough to win the Premier League. He believes they are a cup side and will win a competition this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson said that Enzo Maresca's side do not have the consistency to do well for 38 matches in the league. He added that they are not consistent in matches as well and said:

"Chelsea in the semi-final of the cup, fourth in the league, Champions League, alright. Everything's all right, at the moment, it ain't too bad. They're not gonna win the league yet. They haven't got a league-winning squad, they've got a cup team. The team is a cup squad where it will perform at certain levels so high. Yeah, but there's such a young team that it would be up here one week and it would be down here. "When I go and watch Chelsea, they never give you a 90-minute performance. It'll be 20 minutes of greatness, 25 minutes of 'Wow, where does that come from?', and another 15 minutes of greatness. It's never like across the board. So that's why they'll do well in the cups - they will do well in the cups and I think they will win a cup.

But they won't win the league of 38 games. They have not got enough experience in the team to go the full length."

Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League last season, while winning the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Chelsea owners will not be worried about the Premier League title, says Paul Merson

Paul Merson believes the Chelsea owners will not have an issue if the club does not win the Premier League. He claimed that they are more focused on making money through transfers and making the top four and said:

"They haven't bought to win the Premier League in my opinion. You know, and that's why I don't think they'll have a problem with that. I think keep on getting in the top four, they can keep on making a player here and there, and maybe sell them on. But they have to keep on getting in the top four for Champions League football."

The Blues have reached the Carabao Cup semifinal this season and will face Arsenal or Crystal Palace. They are fourth in the Premier League again, while sitting 13th in the UEFA Champions League.
