Paul Heyman has revealed that he was asked to put Stephanie McMahon out of her game in WWE. Heyman has been an integral part of the Stamford-based promotion for many years and has held various roles.

After ECW folded, the Wiseman joined WWE in 2001 as part of the writing team. During an appearance on What's Your Story? With Steph McMahon, Paul Heyman talked about how he was used to calling shots in ECW but had to adjust to a new role in his new company.

Heyman said that Vince McMahon used this to his advantage and put him up against Stephanie in order to sharpen her.

"We were pitted against each other. Oh, of course, of course, we were, we were absolutely. Well, you know, first of all, I just had spent seven and a half years of my life being God of my own universe. I was the end-all be-all...Now, I come aboard and I’m working for other people, and there’s an approval process where, number one, I was the approval process, and now I’m one of many pitching," he said.

The Oracle revealed that Vince wanted to test his daughter in her new role as the head of the writing team. Heyman said Vince wanted him to be a disrupter to Stephanie's ideas.

"So when I came aboard, I was told, "My daughter runs the writing team. Take her out of her game. I want you to be the disrupter in the room. I want you to be the contrarian opinion. Do not make that easier. There’s no nepotism here. She earns that right to manage you, or she doesn’t get to do it,'" he added.

Paul Heyman added that at the same time Stephanie was asked to control Heyman and rein him in and not let him take her out of her game.
