Patriots writer urges team to draft 23-sack star

The New England Patriots hold the No. 4 pick in this year's NFL Draft, and there is a chance the team will be able to grab one of the top two players.

Colorado's wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter and Penn State's pass rusher Abdul Carter are believed to be the two best players in this year's class.

With the Patriots at No.4, they will need some help from teams taking quarterbacks. If two quarterbacks go before New England picks, then Carter could end up with the Patriots.

Michael DeVito from Musket Fire thinks Carter could be one of the players the Patriots could draft that could turn the team into a contender.

"Next up is Penn State's edge, Abdul Carter. He immediately becomes the Pats' best pass-rusher. Only if Hunter is still on the board should he not be the pick at No. 4," DeVito wrote. Carter had 12 sacks and 24 tackles for loss in 2024. He screams playmaker. Like Hunter, he's a consensus top-2 player in this draft. If he passes the medical evaluation, he's an A+ pick if Hunter is off the board."

Carter recorded 23 career sacks at Penn State over 42 games, so he knows how to get after the quarterback.

Carter could end up heading to New England and helping out a pass rush that needs a lot of help.

If the Patriots can get after the opposing quarterback a few more times, they could win a few more games.
