Corona, last season's national champion in high school baseball, takes the field on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers will be hosting rival Corona-Centennial in game two of their Big VIII league series.

Corona opened this season on a 16-game winning streak, shutting out 12 of their opponents during that stretch with dominance on both sides of the ball. The Panthers were handed their first loss of the season in the semifinal round of the National High School Invitational in North Carolina two weeks ago to Venice (Florida) 5-0. Corona bounced back to take third place with a win over Brooklyn's Poly Prep a day later.

The Panthers were dealt a shocking loss in league play last week, dropping the final game of their series against Santiago, 1-0. Corona was held to one hit, allowing Santiago to score the lone run of the game in the top of the seventh inning. Returning to the field yesterday, Corona took out their anger against Centennial, beating the Huskies 23-3.

Corona hit eight home runs in yesterday's massacre, three coming off the bat of star junior outfielder and LSU commit Anthony Murphy. Top projected picks in this year's upcoming draft, Seth Hernandez and Ethin Bingaman each homered in the win as well.

Corona enters Tuesday's game having beaten their rivals from Centennial in five straight games all coming by more than a run.
