The Patriots begin the Mike Vrabel era in earnest on Friday night with their preseason opener against the Commanders.
Vrabel, a longtime New England linebacker and three-time Super Bowl champion, looks to return the franchise to its winning ways. Much of those aspirations revolve around second-year quarterback Drake Maye. The former No. 3 overall pick may not play in Friday's preseason game — Vrabel's plan for the starters is still unclear — but Maye nonetheless impressed in joint practice with Washington earlier this week.
Speaking of, we'll get our first glimpse at a Commanders team that emerged as last season's feel-good story, roaring all the way to the NFC Championship Game behind then-rookie Jayden Daniels. Daniels won't play on Friday, with Washington instead turning to veteran Josh Johnson and former Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman to split time under center.
