Patriots urged to sign son of franchise legend with huge remaining cap space

18 hours ago 1

The New England Patriots still have tens of millions remaining in cap space.

They could use some of it to sign someone whose name would sound very familiar to Pats fans.

Asante Samuel Jr. is available in free agency, and he's still just 25 after a promising but bumpy career start with the Los Angeles Chargers.

His father, Asante Samuel Sr., helped the Patriots win two Super Bowls and was a two-time first-team All-Pro cornerback in new England.

Bleacher Report suggests the Pats should pursue the younger Samuel.

"Only 25 years old and with 37 passes defended on his resume, Samuel should be worth a flier in New England," Kristopher Knox writes. "He could be a long-term contributor and would be a fine addition to a cornerback room that now includes Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis."

It'd certainly be a cool fit. Samuel Jr. only played four games in 2024 due to a shoulder injury.

Before that, Samuel Jr. had intercepted two passes apiece in each of his first three NFL seasons.

It's time for a reunion.
