The New England Patriots made some significant changes to the wide receiver room this offseason, adding Romeo Doubs and A.J. Brown in two blockbuster moves, and later trading away Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans.
Now, after the Patriots' Week 7 loss to the Chicago Bears, some clear problems have emerged in the WR Room. Unfortunately, the biggest problem appears to be around Brown.
Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis shared five key statistics from Brown's season with the Patriots so far, and while it's only been less than three games, it's been quite a worrying start for Brown in New England so far.
Patriots have an A.J. Brown problem with five brutal stats through Week 7
"AJ Brown among 121 players with 20+ targets: dead last in % of catches for 20+ yards (0), #118 of 121 in receiver error (15%), #118 of 121 in catch rate (45%), #113 of 121 in EPA/target (-0.32), #110 of 121 in yards/target (5.0)," Sharp shared.
Brown has played in three games for the Patriots, but he didn't finish his Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks. But in his time on the field, he's gotten 20 targets this season.
On those 20 targets, Brown has nine receptions for 101 receiving yards with no touchdowns. He also has three drops, which is among the most in the NFL this season despite playing just roughly two-and-a-half games.
Add in the five statistics from Sharp highlighting the Browns' struggles with the Patriots this season, and it's clear that New England has a problem with their No. 1 WR.

It certainly doesn't help that Brown doesn't look as athletic as he has before, which could be a side effect of his return from injury. But his production struggles, combined with how it's looked so far, don't exactly make for an encouraging start.
The Patriots sent the Philadelphia Eagles a first-round pick in 2028, so while there's time before this trade really blows up in their faces, they really need Brown to turn things around, and soon.
His dud in primetime against the Bears didn't help his case either, as he caught just three of six targets for 48 yards, a lot of which came near the end of the game when things were just about out of reach.
Drake Maye has turned things around after a slow start, so Brown is someone who could totally do the same at some point this season. But for now, his struggles are a very real problem for the Patriots.
