Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes targeting return for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season
NFL: Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes - Source: ImagnLast week, Rick Burkholder, the Chiefs' vice president of sports medicine and performance, suggested that the team is hoping to have Patrick Mahomes back in action for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season. Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl winner, tore his ACL and LCL in a loss to the Chargers.
"Every player is different. Every sport is different. Every position is different," Burkholder said last week. "(Mahomes) is so in tune to what he does, he does it a little quicker. Ballpark on this is nine months, but it could be a month or two more, a month or two less."In his cut-short 2025 season, Mahomes recorded 3,857 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and five rushing TDs.
The 2026 NFL regular season is set to begin on Sept. 10. It remains to be seen if Mahomes will be healthy to play in Kansas City's season-opener.
