Recently, Path of Exile 2 players started farming the Vaal Temple to earn tens of raw Divine Orbs in a single run. It was due to a recent ‘exploit’ that allowed players to reset the Vaal Ruins entrance by making a new instance. A popular place for that was Holten during the Interlude, where the League mechanic was just seconds away from spawn.
There is an ongoing debate on the topic, and everyone has their own views on the situation. That said, let’s have a quick look at how the Path of Exile 2 players started ‘printing’ tens of Divines every hour.
How does the Holten Temple farm exploit work in Path of Exile 2?
Holten was the farming spot for everyone for Vaal Temple setup (Image via GGG)The idea behind the Vaal Temple in Path of Exile 2 is to build your own dungeon. Throughout the campaign and the endgame, each area will have an entrance to the Temple powered by Vaal crystals. Defeating nearby enemies powers the entrance, and once all crystals light up, a portal will appear. Inside, there’s a console that lets you design the dungeon.
After a run, some of the room destabilizes. The game will delete some rooms connected to a path, but cannot wipe rooms that are connected to each other in a straight line. By stacking them in corners and not defeating the Temple Architect, it’s easy to trigger only a partial reset.
Lining up rooms is a good strategy to keep the temple mostly intact (Image via u/7om_Last || GGG)Each map grants a single progress towards the Temple crystal. After gaining access and completing a run, you need to do it all over again. The process takes time, and it’s where the Holten exploit shines. Since the spawn point in the area was near the Vaal Temple entrance, it was easy to complete a run and stack rooms very quickly.
While a fully juiced Vaal Temple grants a lot of currency, being able to do it again and again in a short amount of time is problematic. The process allowed players to farm tens, or even hundreds, of Divine Orbs per hour. The issue is reportedly fixed, but you can still build a temple at a low level.
Additionally, those who have already built a fully upgraded Vaal Temple can still run it, albeit a little less frequently. I don’t or didn’t use the exploit personally, but have seen the inside of the said Temple, and yes, there’s a lot of currency to earn in a single run.
Did the Holten Divine farm affect Path of Exile 2?
A Divine is over 400 Exalt in PoE2 (Image via GGG)The Divine to Exalt price ratio did skyrocket after people started using the Holten farming method. Additionally, many of the items for the current build meta in Path of Exile 2 are selling at an all-time high. However, there’s no need for super expensive uniques like the Temporalis to make an endgame build.
Most of the expensive gear is there to min-max a build, but it’s possible to run juiced tier 15 maps on a decent budget. I have two builds this season that I alternate. One is a CoC Comet Sorceress, and the other is a Walking Calamity Druid, each costing around 10 to 15 Divines.
Again, spending five divines on the god roll of an item in Path of Exile 2 when you can spend one or two to get the same thing with a bit lower stats. Most of the time, a build needs the best damage possible only when you’re the carry in a full 6-man squad, which isn’t usually the case for an average player.
