Panthers in surprising place in NFL playoff picture after Week 7

4 hours ago 2

No one really saw such a roll coming for the Carolina Panthers.

But here they are, definitively on a roll.

The Panthers won their third game in a row, beating the New York Jets on Sunday, 13-6.

Carolina shut down Justin Fields so much that the Jets benched him for Tyrod Taylor, but Taylor wasn't any better.

Bryce Young threw a touchdown pass to Xavier Legette, who had nine catches for 92 yards.

Young eventually left with an ankle injury, with Andy Dalton finishing out the win.

The Panthers find themselves in a surprising spot: above .500.

They're now 4-3 on the season. They're in a competitive NFC South.

The Atlanta Falcons are 3-2 heading into Sunday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers.

Atop the division are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, at 5-1 entering Monday Night Football against the Detroit Lions.

It's really early, so the Panthers have a lot of work to do. They wouldn't even quite get a wild card spot if the playoffs started today.

But Carolina looks like they can win football games this season, which not everyone anticipated. Just the fact that they're in contention at all is a big deal.
