Denver Broncos completely change narrative during shocking Week 7 comeback win

3 hours ago 2

The Denver Broncos have improved to 5-2 with one of the wildest wins you will ever see.

This game had it all, but for most of it, you would have never guessed it would. Entering the fourth quarter, the Broncos trailed the visiting New York Giants 19-0. Unable to do much offensively, the team also hurt itself with numerous penalties.

But the Giants played a solid game as well, using the battering ram of Cam Skattebo to set up manageable third downs. On defense, they easily shut down the Broncos' rushing attack and kept Bo Nix at bay in the passing game.

Broncos fans and those in the media were getting ready to hammer Sean Payton for his lackluster playcalling, talking about how maybe he needs to turn that duty over to someone else, perhaps quarterbacks coach Davis Webb. That narrative was also going to include how the Broncos need to get more creative, as well as open up the passing attack, as they are definitely not a Super Bowl contender.

What a difference one 15-minute quarter of an NFL game makes.

The Broncos scored an unbelievable 33 points in the fourth quarter. They took the lead at 30-26 on an 18-yard touchdown run by Bo Nix with 1:51 left to play. The Giants, who had just one timeout remaining, needed to go down the field and get a touchdown to win.

There was no way that was going to happen, right? Aided by a very questionable pass interference call against Riley Moss, followed by an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Sean Payton for rushing onto the field and (rightfully) questioning the call, the Giants were set up on the 1-yard line. On the next play, Jaxson Dart scored to put the Giants ahead 32-20 with only 37 seconds left to play.

But Giants kicker Jude McAtamney missed the extra point, his second miss of the day, and that kept the Broncos breathing. Bo Nix masterfully took the Broncos down the field with a 29-yard pass to Marvin Mims Jr. (followed by a neutral zone infraction against Brian Burns) and then a 22-yard pass to Courtland Sutton to get the Broncos down to the Giants' 21-yard line. Nix spiked the ball with three seconds remaining, setting the stage for Wil Lutz to complete one of the wildest games in NFL history.

Maybe the playcalling in the first three quarters was bad and maybe Payton needs to consider some changes, but truly, none of that matters right now. The Broncos just got the kind of victory that changes the outlook of an entire season and the wave of momentum they can ride from this win — their fourth in a row — could last deep into the season.

In other words, it's difficult to look at any negative aspect of this game. That was nothing short of incredible.
