Mason Miller, as they say, pitches as if brought down from a higher league.
Really, the San Diego Padres closer pitches as if he showed up from a superior planet.
If this is Major League Baseball, Miller may have previously been a member of Major Galaxy Baseball.
He may be on the most unhittable run of any pitcher in the history of the sport, and two stats circulating social media after his Friday night outing both sum it up in equally absurd ways.
One is this:
- Miller has thrown 20 balls this season.
- Miller has struck out 19 batters this season.

Of course, some of his strikes come on whiffs on nasty pitches out of the zone, but that's part of the point. This should be impossible.
The other is simple what Miller has done to the last 18 hitters he's faced: 17 strikeouts and 1 groundout.

Miller throws as hard as anyone in baseball, and he pairs that with a filthy slider. How do you have a chance at hitting either one if the other is even slightly present in your mind?
The Padres traded for Miller from the A's last season, and they didn't even make him their closer right away. Clearly, that move was overdue.
Miller is untouchable. If the Padres have a late lead, it's over. They've got an alien trotting in from the bullpen.
