During their series opener with the Milwaukee Brewers, the San Diego Padres earned a walk-off victory in the 11th inning to punch a ticket to the MLB playoffs.
Considering it is the last week of the MLB season, and San Diego is still a few games behind the Dodgers in the NL West, it is a perfect time for key players to take some time off and get ready/healthy for the postseason.
Fernando Tatis Jr. dealing with an illness
AJ Preller said Monday that he's hopeful Fernando Tatis Jr. can return to the lineup later this week, as he's been battling an illness from over the weekend. He missed Monday's game against the Brewers and is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of that series.
The reports say he's being tested for a variety of different illnesses, including maladies, the FLU, and COVID-19.
The Padres' president of baseball operations indicated that they are doing more testing on Tuesday, and a clearer answer should be delivered then.
Now is a perfect time for Tatis Jr. to be sidelined with an illness rather than being sick during the playoffs, or being sidelined with a real injury that could keep him out for an extended period of time.
San Diego is likely going to head to Wrigley Field to take on the Chicago Cubs in the NL WC round.
