Padres could look up the road at Angels to find the hitter San Diego desperately needs

1 hour ago 2

It feels like nobody is talking about the start to the season the San Diego Padres have had, though it's understandable because the Los Angeles Dodgers are still 1.5 games ahead of them in the National League West.

However, the Padres have really done a nice job on both sides of the baseball, and there's reason to believe that this can be a very good team come playoff time. The Padres, as always, are going to make the right moves at the trade deadline if they believe they have a chance to compete for a playoff spot and a World Series.

Searching for ways to improve the roster, they were recently named a potential trade candidate for Jo Adell of the Los Angeles Angels, a move that would send a California rival down to San Diego.

“Adell is quietly turning into a star over with the Los Angeles Angels. In 2025, he hit 37 homers and drove in 98 runs. So far this season, he has slashed .268/.305/.366 with four homers, 20 RBIs and has been electric defensively.

“The Padres need some more pop in the middle of the order. Adell could provide that and get time in the outfield or as a designated hitter. Plus, he has one more season of control in 2027. The Padres are never afraid to make a splash. It would be much more fun to throw out a name here, like Mike Trout, but if the Angels continue to struggle, Adell seems much more likely to be on the move,” Patrick McAvoy of SI wrote.

Adell has quietly put together a very nice career for himself, and the 13-23 Angels definitely need to be sellers.

The right-handed hitter is currently hitting .269 with four home runs on the year and has gotten a bit better on the defensive side of the baseball. He still has some strikeout problems with 33 on the year, but he'd be a nice addition for a Padres team that can use some more offensive help.
