The Spurs and Timberwolves were both plagued by first-round injuries to their star players. Now, with Victor Wembanyama and Anthony Edwards back on the court, these teams have revitalized rosters.
Despite the Spurs being the favorites, the Timberwolves squeezed out a Game 1 victory, 104-102. Anthony Edwards' time was limited with lingering injury concerns, but he still managed 18 points in 25 minutes. Julius Randle led the way with a 21-point double-double.
The Spurs were led by Victor Wembanyama's defense in game one, as the 7'4" center tallied a triple-double with 11 points, 15 rebounds, and a playoff record 12 blocks. Dylan Harper led the team in scoring, with 18 points off the bench.
Going forward, the Timberwolves are still far from a full recovery. Edwards isn't at full capacity and guards Donte DiVincenzo and Ayo Dosunmu are both out, though Dosunmu has a chance to return.
The Spurs are the healthier, better-positioned team on paper. Can the Timberwolves pull of yet another upset?
