Packers trade rumor reveals likely deadline plan after Tucker Kraft injury

22 hours ago 1

The Green Bay Packers were dealt a devastating blow on Sunday when tight end Tucker Kraft suffered a season-ending injury.

Kraft was confirmed to have a torn ACL on Monday, which means the Packers will be without one of their best playmakers for the remainder of the campaign, which is obviously terrible news for a Packers team that has Super Bowl hopes.

Because of the gravity of the loss, many are wondering if the Packers might make a deadline trade for a veteran tight end to try and help fill the void.

However, CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reports that the Packers "may sit tight" and rely on Luke Musgrave and others to pick up the slack instead.

Once the news on Tucker Kraft's ACL tear came through, my phone lit up with sources wondering if Green Bay would look to add a tight end. The obvious choice was David Njoku in Cleveland. But the word I'm getting is the Packers may sit tight, increasing the role of Luke Musgrave and relying on the ground game with Josh Jacobs and their receivers group. Green Bay made its big trade with Micah Parsons, and it's not a franchise that makes a desperate move just before the deadline.

Jones mentions Njoku, who could be available given the fact that the Cleveland Browns' season is in the gutter and the veteran will be a free agent in 2026.

Njoku is a good blocker and an even better pass-catcher, making him one of the better acquisitions the Packers could make to replace Kraft.

That said, after paying the high price for Micah Parsons in the trade with the Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay might be hesitant to part with more draft capital.

Another tight end to keep an eye on is the Tennessee Titans' Chig Okonkwo, who is in the final year of his contract, also. Okonkwo is a solid blocker and a freak athlete who could really be unlocked in Green Bay, and he will cost less than Njoku given Okonkwo's relatively low profile.

We'll have our answer for what the Packers decide to do soon enough with the trade deadline rapidly approaching on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 4 p.m. ET.
