If there's any team that understands how important it is to have a good backup quarterback, it's the Green Bay Packers.
For the last two seasons, the Packers have had a quality backup quarterback in Malik Willis, who played at a high level in place of an injured Jordan Love.
The problem is that Willis played at such a high level that he garnered interest for starting jobs in free agency, which led to him departing to the Miami Dolphins.
Now, the Packers have a backup quarterback problem, with uninspiring options like Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord sitting behind Love on the depth chart.
It goes without saying the Packers need to continue to explore their options and CBS Sports analyst John Breech predicts Green Bay will address their need by trading for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson.
"Adding Richardson would give LaFleur another project to work with. Richardson obviously wouldn't be the starter in Green Bay -- because Jordan Love exists -- but Love has missed at least two games in each of the past two seasons, so Richardson could certainly see some action at some point," Breech wrote.
Richardson has been on the trade block for nearly a month now after he and the Colts agreed to part ways via trade at the end of February.
While Richardson has proven to be a bust after three seasons, the same was the case with Willis after two seasons before head coach Matt LaFleur helped turn his career around. It can be argued that Willis looked even more lost than Richardson has.
Richardson has an intriguing skill set with his big arm and elite athleticism and he could very well be the next quarterback the Packers turn around.
At the very least, we can confidently say Richardson is better than both Ridder and McCord, so he would provide an upgrade at the backup quarterback spot by default.
